“Seeing the
World Through God’s Perspective”
Dear Friends,
How often do we jump at the opportunity to help
when we see someone in need? Sometimes,
we do. Often, we do not. When we see a lost item, do we return it to
its owner? When we see someone
overloaded with packages, do we run to assist them? When we notice the homeless, do we offer support,
maybe some breakfast or lunch?
As Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson points out, we are
tempted in those situations to do nothing.
It is human to be indifferent.
Yet Jewish tradition tells us to act, to help, to assist. This week’s Torah portion teaches that we are
not permitted to be indifferent. In
situations where help is required, we must see the world not through human eyes,
but rather through God’s perspective. In
each and every moment, we must be ready to make difference right here and right
now.
As we approach the High Holidays, just two weeks
away, consider the New Year and how you will be ready to be ever ready to help
those in need.
